Cherokee County Comprehensive Plan

aka "Comp Plan"

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT TO SIXES OVERLAY?

Sixes Corridor needs to be included in this plan!

Sixes Community & Corridor

IS a GREAT COMMUNITY!

Let's keep it that way!

It's our money too (tax dollars)! We, as taxpayers, contribute to the county by paying taxes, and are asked to vote for SPLOST!

Quality! Quality! Quality!  Protecting our community!  Let's keep her beautiful!

Quality communities achieve higher property values.  Higher property values = more tax revenue for the county.

It's important that your voice is heard and your input documented.

What is this?  Below is the Cherokee County "Comp Plan" document.

When? Attended the first Advisory Committee Meeting as an observer (public was invited) - Monday, August 21, 2017 at 7pm.

Who?  The County Planning and Zoning presented to the Advisory Committee at The Bluffs. There was discussion, and input.  Including how best to market this to the public in the future so there is more participation.  The final plan (I believe) will be presented to the County Commissioners for approval before it goes to the Department of Community Affairs (State of Georgia).

Why? The County is required to provide a Comprehensive (Land Use) update to the D.C.A. (Department of Community Affairs).

Understand:  The keyword is UPDATE

Observation.

1- Shockingly small attendance.

Cherokee County has about 200,000 people living here and there were about 4-5 people

from the public in attendance.

The meeting started with 3 people in the audience, and became 5.  1 Planning and Zoning Board member stayed on after the P&Z Meeting and Mayor Steven Miller of Holly Springs arrived after it started.  200,000 people, I cannot believe there are this many uninterested or un-involved citizens.

2- Sixes Community was vacant from the plan document outside of Blanket's Creek (see doc below). Pay particular attention to Historic Places.  They did include public and private landmark areas.

3- No mention of The Mill, the Church at the Exit 11 Ramp, Green Prints Trail Plan, Old Sixes Elementary, Cabin across from Sixes Elementary (***which may have been moved), Toonigh Creek (quality of, and watershed plan)

4- No current line item in plan to protect Sixes Community green spaces, tree buffers, etc.

5- Traffic flow plan? What happens to traffic when Northside, Well Star, Gresham Mill Road develops, 18 acres near Mill, Corner of Marble Quarry, new Aldi is added, new proposed restaurant, Waffle House, Dunkin' Donuts, acreage next to Highland Point (approximately 40 acres), and land behind Publix is developed?  And other smaller pockets of property in and between? Congestion overflowing from new apartments in Holly Springs will add to the congestion near I-575 hotlanes/Exit 11 bridge.

How can I help?  Email!  Fill in public input form.  Have YOUR voice heard!  What is important to you?  Let them know!

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT TO YOU? SIXES NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED--->but they need to hear from you.  It's not too late!
